DHN -- 2 friends, 2 emails, the first

Submitted by Nick Stavrides on Wed, 11/05/2008 - 21:34.

After I finished gently sobbing watching and listening to the sounds from the TV, not the bloated analysis of pundits, but the sound of relief, honest emotion, joy, I walked to my newborns crib and kissed her forehead. I whispered, it's all right.
She stirred slightly and sighed deeper than I did at 11:01 a half hour before.

As I road the train into the city this morning an older black woman, perhaps in her early sixties, rose from her seat to exit at Grand Central. She noticed the Obama pin on my lapel, looked me in the eyes and smiled. As she began to walk past to exit, she took my hand, never taking her eyes off mine. Both our eyes grew moist and the moment past, each disappearing into the sea of humanity, both remembering 5 seconds of knowing, it's alright.

I felt an overwhelming sense of joy and pride in my country last night, something I had not felt since 2 days after 9/11 when people walked down the street and looked each other in the eyes to feel the connection of another soul and silently say, it's alright. And I felt the same this morning as I walked amongst all faces, all the different cultures in NYC that looked unstressed, at ease and looking each other in the eyes saying, it's alright. yes we did.

Peace my friends,
Ty
